Semarang (October 8, 2022) – To enhance public knowledge about cancer, its prevention, and management, PDPKK SPM RRS Katedral Semarang organized a seminar for the general public. On this occasion, Dr. Martha Irene Kartasurya, MSc, PhD, from the Master of Public Health Program at the Faculty of Public Health, Diponegoro University, was one of the four invited speakers. The event, held at Sukasari I Building, Jl. Dr. Sutomo No. 2, Semarang, was attended by 140 church members and local community members.

This free seminar, themed A Cheerful Heart is Good Medicine, took place from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM. The four speakers were Dr. Budi Setiawan, SpPD, KHOM from Dr. Kariadi Hospital Semarang; Dr. E. Endang Sri Mariani, SpKFR (K) from St. Elisabeth Hospital Semarang; Dr. Elizabeth W.M. Indira, M.Pd, Psi; and Dr. Martha Irene Kartasurya, MSc, PhD, from the Faculty of Public Health, Diponegoro University. Dr. Martha presented a session on Diet for Cancer Prevention and Patients.

This seminar provided valuable benefits to the general public and cancer patients alike. It introduced support groups for cancer patients in Semarang, offering psychological, physical, and overall health support to improve their quality of life and survival rates. Families of cancer patients also learned caregiving techniques, ways to support their loved ones, and dietary management strategies for cancer patients. Additionally, healthy individuals gained insights into maintaining a healthy lifestyle to prevent cancer.
