SEMARANG – On Tuesday, April 30, 2019, an expert lecture was held in Room D-202 at the Faculty of Public Health, Diponegoro University (FKM Undip). The event was organized by the Master of Public Health Study Program, FKM Undip, with the theme “Measurement and Program Implications for Reducing Maternal and Neonatal Mortality.” The lecture was delivered by Prof. Dr. Endang L. Achadi, MPH, Dr.PH, a professor from the Faculty of Public Health, University of Indonesia.

The expert lecture was attended by approximately 70 participants, including undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral students from FKM Undip, as well as several faculty members.

The event began with an opening speech by Dr. Dra. Chriswardani Suryawati, M.Kes, Head of the Master of Public Health Study Program at FKM Undip. She expressed her gratitude and warmly welcomed Prof. Endang for her willingness and presence as a guest lecturer. She also hoped that the insights shared by Prof. Endang would be valuable for all participants.

During her lecture, Prof. Endang discussed the definitions and measurements of Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR) and Neonatal Mortality Rate (NMR), as well as the data sources for these indicators. She also elaborated on the challenges in measuring maternal mortality, various methods for assessing MMR, and an overview of maternal mortality rates worldwide and in Indonesia.

Further, she addressed the issue of high maternal and neonatal mortality rates in Indonesia, emphasizing two key factors influencing the problem: the availability of accurate data and the effectiveness of existing programs.
